Crystal prism “obelisk” Gift from Napoleon to Marie-Louise in 1811. Click on the photos for hyper-links to more views.

Acquired at auction in Lake Geneva (Lac Le Mans) in 1897.Original gift presented to Marie-Louise at Compiegne for the Salon du Roi de Rome. It remained there and became a favorite of the Empress Eugeine.Given as a gift by Kaiser Willhelm to Mrs. Ada M. Reitz prior to W.W.I. The Crystal remained in her possession until her death in 1959. It has been in my possession since. Part of the original provenance is still legible on the base.

Aldo Affortunati Oils pre WWII

Aldo Affortunati Italian Artist Born 1906
Aldo Affortunati, Mostra per sona le de Aldo Affortunati: One man show 1942.Saint Marks (Galleria San Marco) Gallery Rome 26th of April through 9th of May 1942.
Like the operatic composer Puccini, Aldo Affortunati was fascinated by the American west and made two very important artistic contributions documenting the Pioneer spirit he envisioned. 1. The Pioneers (AKA by art historians as The Donner Party). This painting depicts the split in the Donner party. In the foreground Those who remained behind and lived and moving towards the horizon those who suffered and or perished in the Donner Pass catastrophe.2. The Pioneer Camp. The pioneers at camp prior to setting forth on the great adventure into the Sierra Nevada. A gay and pastoral scene quite different in tone and feeling from the Pioneers (Item 1).3. Bordello Tuscany (Two Gentlemen from Verona) Two gents, one in a carriage approaching the Bordello and one departing on horseback stop to exchange pleasantries and possibly compare notes. All paintings are in the original gallery frames circa: 1938 through 1942. Some erosion of frames quality simply due to being 60 years old, overall good quality on Frames and excellent quality on Oil Paintings.
